Introduction to Gil Jones

In 1972, Las Cruces became my home when my family moved here from El Paso.  While still attending Mayfield High School, I enrolled at New Mexico State University where I earned an Associate's degree and a Bachelor's degree from the College of Agriculture and Home Economics by 1985.

The bulk of my working career has been in the field of agriculture.  From 1987 until 2008, I worked with cotton farmers throughout the region.  In 2008, I entered the field of commercial real estate.

My wife Jamie has devoted her entire career to public education.  Together we have raised three children.

My sense of identity has been shaped by many factors including our arid but beautiful desert, our nearby mountains and our proud agricultural history.  Other qualities that have helped shape who I am include our multicultural population, our proximity to our southern neighbor Mexico, and the many hard working people who raise families on wages well below the national average.

At the end of the day, the people of Las Cruces have fundamental needs that our city must strive to provide.  Those needs include safe, well-maintained streets, protection from desert storm waters, an adequate number of parks for our children, and a healthy job market.  Also, we must do everything possible to maintain strong police and fire departments, minimize the burden of traffic, and see to it that we have a healthy supply of water for decades to come.

It is truly and honor and a privilege to serve the residents of District 5 as well as the rest of Las Cruces.

PUTTING MY BUSINESS EXPERIENCE TO WORK IN YOUR DISTRICT:

"I promised to put my extensive business record to work for Dist. 5 and the City of Las Cruces from the protection of the Organ Mountains to funding for key projects in the district. My tack record shows that."
